Welcome

Before our awesome session together, there are a few things we need to take care of. First up, you'll receive a session agreement and an invoice. I do require a 50% non-refundable retainer that you'll need to settle as soon as possible to secure your date and time. The remaining 50% and is due no later than 24 hours before our session. And don't worry, I've got a session agreement in place too. It just ensures that we're all on the same page about how things work, including timelines, copyright, rescheduling, and even a model release in case I'd love to share some of your fantastic images online. But hey, if you'd prefer to keep things private, no problem at all. Just let me know, and I'll respect your wishes.

Now, let's talk about the day of our session. We'll meet up at our pre-arranged location. If you happen to be running a bit late or stuck in traffic, just shoot me a text and keep me in the loop. Once we're there, I'll show you around and give you the lowdown on where we'll be shooting. Trust me, I'll do my absolute best to make the session super fun and relaxing for everyone! No forced smiles or stiff poses, I promise. Just come ready to explore, get close, connect, and engage with one another. I want to capture those beautiful, natural moments that truly represent your amazing family.

After our session, I'll head home and spend some quality time choosing the best photos that tell your unique story. Once they're ready, you'll receive an online viewing gallery with proof edits. These are the base edits that I'll be working on. It usually takes around 2 weeks to complete. From there, you get to pick your favorite images included in your session fee. And hey, if you're interested, additional images and prints are available too. Once you've made your selections, I'll finalize the edits and send them your way.Once you've got your digital files, you're free to print them, share them on social media, or use them to create awesome holiday cards. The possibilities are endless! The only thing I kindly ask is to refrain from reselling your photos or using them for commercial purposes. You're free to enjoy them personally, but let's just avoid using them for business ventures or contests.

The Process
What To Wear
What To WEar.png

Let's talk fashion for your portrait session, because what you wear plays a BIG role in the final images. Now, I know it might seem like a lot of information, but trust me, it's worth reading through to get a great understanding of what will make you look fabulous.

Patterns and Prints: When incorporating patterns, aim for a balanced approach. Select one or two family members to wear patterns while keeping the rest in solid colors. This helps create a cohesive look without overwhelming the overall composition. Patterns can add personality and visual intrigue to your photos.

Mix Textures and Layers: Add depth and visual interest to your outfits by incorporating different textures and layers. Consider wearing items like cardigans, scarves, or jackets. These pieces can effortlessly elevate your ensemble and give your photos a stylish touch.

Coordinating Colours: If you're using patterns, start by selecting colours within that palette that compliment each other. Think in terms of tones such as earth tones, pastels, or complementary colours. Coordinating colours create a visually appealing and harmonious look. Avoid the "matchy matchy" approach and let each family member showcase their individual style within the chosen color scheme.

Dress for the Location: Take into account the location of your photoshoot when selecting your outfits. Consider the backdrop and the overall ambiance. If you're shooting in a natural setting, choose colors that complement the surroundings. If you're in an urban environment, you might opt for more vibrant or contrasting colors to stand out.

Avoid Logos and Busy Graphics: To keep the focus on you and your family, avoid clothing with large logos or busy graphics. These can be distracting and take away from the connection and emotion captured in the photos. Opt for simple, timeless pieces that won't overpower the overall aesthetic.

Pay Attention to Grooming: Don't forget to consider grooming details like hairstyles, clean nails, and well-fitted clothing. These little touches can make a big difference in the final outcome of your photos.

Be Comfortable and Authentic: Above all, choose outfits that make you feel comfortable and confident. Dress in clothes that reflect your family's personal style and individuality. When you feel at ease, it shines through in the photos, resulting in more natural and relaxed images.

When it comes to hair, feel free to go with your usual style.

If you've been eyeing that fresh haircut and it makes you feel excited, go ahead and treat yourself to a snip! Just make sure to schedule it about a week or so before the session to allow your hair to settle into its new look.

Now, if you prefer to keep your hair as is, that's totally cool too! The most important thing is for you to feel comfortable and confident in your appearance. I want everyone to look and feel their best while keeping it laid-back and easygoing. So, whether you're rocking your signature style or trying something fresh, let your true selves shine through in the photos.

If you're someone who loves to rock a full face of makeup every day, go ahead and bring your A-game! Feel free to showcase your signature style and bring on the glam. We want you to feel like your most confident self, and if that means going all out with a bold and fabulous look, go for it!

On the other hand, if you prefer a more natural look and don't typically wear a lot of makeup, that's totally cool too! Embrace your clean and fresh face, and let your natural beauty take center stage. Just a touch of powder to reduce shine right before the session can give you that polished touch without feeling overdone.

The key here is to be true to yourself and wear what makes you feel comfortable and confident. Whether it's a full face of makeup or a simple touch-up, we want you to feel amazing during your session. So, go ahead and rock your preferred style, because you're beautiful inside and out, no matter what!

Remember, the goal is to create beautiful, timeless images that reflect your family's unique bond. Use this guide as a starting point, but feel free to infuse your own personal style and creativity. The most important thing is to be yourselves and have fun during the photoshoot!

If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, don't hesitate to reach out. I'm here to help you make your family photoshoot a memorable and enjoyable experience.

You see, my favorite spots are all about finding that magical combination of beautiful light and wide-open spaces to roam. It's all about capturing that perfect blend of natural ambiance and freedom to create amazing memories. Whether you're a city dweller, a countryside lover, or someone who adores a mix of both, we'll find the ideal location that suits your personal style.

Oh, and let me tell you a little secret: I'm constantly on the lookout for new gems. With each season, fresh and enchanting locations emerge, offering us a whole new backdrop to play with. So, get ready to explore and embrace the ever-changing beauty of our surroundings.

Together, we'll discover the perfect spot that captures the essence of your family and makes your photoshoot a truly unforgettable experience.

Locations
  • What time of day do you prefer to schedule sessions?
I prefer to schedule my sessions as close to sunset as possible. This is when we will capture the best lighting and achieve those 'glowing' photographs.
  • Will we get the print release for the photos?
Yes! Upon receiving your final images, you will also get a full print release.
  • Will my photos be posted publicly on your site or social media?
I respect your privacy and allow each client to decide whether or not they want their photos displayed publicly. I'd love to show off you & your images!
  • Will you Photoshop my images to hide any unwanted spots, wrinkles, etc?
Absolutely! Unless requested, I will only edit unavoidable distractions (blemishes, scratches, bruises). My rule of thumb is if it will be gone in 2 weeks, it will be edited out. If you want something photoshopped that could have been avoided (the color of your socks, your shirt, wrinkles in clothes etc) there will be an image fee for editing these changes, so please take that into consideration when putting together your outfits.
  • Do I have to order prints through you?
I highly recommend ordering prints through my professional lab, but it is not required. The difference in quality is huge when it comes to ordering through a professional lab, but you will have full print rights.
  • What happens if I'm sick or it rains?
If for some reason you cannot make your scheduled session time, due to sickness or mother nature, I will gladly reschedule your session to the next available date that works for both of our schedules. If another date is not scheduled and you cancel your session completely, your retainer fee is forfeited.
  • Are our furry family members welcome?
YES!!! Your pets are part of your family, if you want them included, just let me know ahead of time, so we can prepare a plan to keep them safe when they are not in the photo and plan a location accordingly.
  • Am I allowed to share my images on Facebook?
Absolutely! Once I deliver your FINAL images to you, please share them all you like! If I share some images on my professional page, you are also allowed to share that post, In fact I would appreciate it so much! However, please do not share your initial gallery I’ve sent you before the final editing process has been done.
  • Do you travel outside of the Comox Valley?
Yes! I do charge a travel fee for anywhere outside of the Comox Valley area (Black Creek - Bowser) based off of Google Maps.
  • How quickly will we receive our photos?
I know you will be excited to see the finished photos! I will do my absolute best to make it happen quickly. Please expect 1-2 weeks before you have access to your initial proofing gallery for choosing your favorites. After your choices are made, expect an additional 2-3 weeks for delivery. Usually this is much quicker, depending on the season.
  • Do you take any traditional posed shoots?
Yes, I will spend some time taking some relaxed portraits of you together as a family, as this can be an important record for you (and it makes great Christmas gifts to the grand-parents). I will also spend time letting the action happen naturally and capturing the moments as they unfold.
  • How do you describe your photography style?
I try to keep my family photography very natural, capturing the action as it happens. I generally pick a few cute spots, "arrange" you in them and then lead you to interact in ways that bring out natural expressions and connections. I feel this will bring out the true character of your children and will also make the session more enjoyable."
